Vincent Kompany 'out for a month' for Manchester City with calf injury

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is still at least a month away from a return to the first-team, manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed.

The Belgian centre-back has suffered with a fresh calf injury since Boxing Day, leaving the field against Sunderland after just nine minutes on his return from a similar set-back. City have since embarked on a run of form which has seen them win just two in five.

“Vincent has at least two or three weeks more so he's not able to work with the squad,” Pellegrini said after City's draw with West Ham United on Saturday.

“When he starts working with the whole squad then he needs at least one week more to return.”

The Chilean’s comments cast doubt over Kompany’s fitness for the Champions League round-of-16 match away at Dynamo Kiev while the 29-year-old is certain to miss Premier League clashes against Sunderland and title-rivals Leicester.

City face Everton in the second-leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final tie with Everton, after losing the first match 2-1 at Goodison Park, on Wednesday night.
