From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Victor Anichebe has issued a rallying call to West Bromwich Albion supporters, urging them to get behind the team and help keep them in the Premier League this season.
The Nigerian scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at The Hawthorns on Sunday, but the result still only leaves Albion one point clear of the drop zone.
Anichebe admits The Baggies face a crucial away trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday, and says the fans must get behind the team if they are to survive relegation: “Next weekend is a really important game, they’re all important until the end of the season,” he said.
“The fans need to get behind us, I can see the frustration and I understand it because we shouldn’t be where we are. I think they really need to stick behind us, we’re frustrated as well.”
The striker scored just his second goal of the season against Liverpool on Sunday, after he latched onto a miscued backpass from Kolo Toure.
Anichebe thinks his side showed the resilience necessary for Premier League survival on Sunday, but has stressed that West Brom are still a squad in transition: “On Saturday a lot of results had gone against us,” he added.
“A lot of people must have been writing us off and probably thought we wouldn’t get anything. But we showed what a strong team we are and showed some resilience.
“Against Everton we played really well, at Villa we should have won the game and we let it go. But we’re still learning. The manager is teaching us different things and it’s going to come, next week we can hopefully get a win.”
