From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The player was taken to hospital in the early hours of Monday suffering breathing difficulties following a night out which led to police investigating the possibility he had his drink spiked.
"I have spoken with Andy and he is sorry for what has happened," the Everton manager, David Moyes, said yesterday. "He will be fined because he should not have been out. But that is the end of the matter."
West Ham will be without Matthew Etherington for the first three games of the Barclays Premiership after the winger collided with striker Marlon Harewood and damaged his knee in training. Etherington will be out of action for a month.
Doctors in Australia have told Hayden Foxe that he can resume his career at Leeds. The former West Ham and Portsmouth defender has just recovered from a serious foot injury that kept him out of the game for 18 months.
Leeds officials asked for a set of scans to be sent to Australia for a second opinion and specialists have told Foxe he is fit enough to be offered a long-term contract. Foxe has spent the last month on trial at Elland Road, but is now poised to sign a permanent contract.
He will be joined by defender Mo Camara, who has agreed a season-long loan deal. Gordon Strachan has told the Celtic player he can leave and Kevin Blackwell has beaten several rivals to obtain Camara.
Barnsley have signed the former Celtic and Sunderland midfielder Colin Healy. The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international has agreed a one-year deal after being released by Livingston at the end of last season.
