Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Mexican's 25 goals in 40 games for United made him arguably the buy of last summer, and after rewarding Chris Smalling with a new five-year deal yesterday – a response to the way he exceeded his manager's expectations – United are ready to place Hernandez next in line for an improved contract.
The 23-year-old has been given a break after his involvement for his country in the Gold Cup and will not head out on the pre-season tour with the majority of United's players next week. Smalling has been given a new five-year deal. Having been one of the few members of England's Under-21 squad to emerge with credit from a disappointing European Championship campaign in Denmark last month, he will return to United on Monday before the flight to the United States.
There have been no approaches to Manchester City for their captain Carlos Tevez, with the club expecting that one of Milan's sides might have responded to the statement released by his representatives on Monday night, stating that he wishes to leave. The timing of the statement has puzzled City and there is a feeling that it may be a response to manager Roberto Mancini suggesting a swap deal with Samuel Eto'o last weekend, which might have agitated his representatives. The Tevez camp cite family reasons for his wish to leave.
The absentee list for Manchester City's pre-season tour includes Shay Given, who has been allowed to stay in Manchester, with a £5m move to Aston Villa on the cards. Striker Jo will also miss the trip.
