Trent Alexander-Arnold praises Liverpool squad’s ‘relentlessness’ in pursuit of silverware

Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken about the ability within the Liverpool squad to absorb a setback during matches, safe in the knowledge they can find a way back.

In the Reds’ last four domestic fixtures, they have needed to either come from behind or score a late goal, showing remarkable mentality and self-belief against Leicester, Manchester United, Tottenham and – with a second-string side on the pitch – Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp has often spoken about hte intensity and determination of his squad to get results and fight for trophies, and those characteristics have been called upon with regularity of late.

Alexander-Arnold says that the long-term ambitions of the team ensure focus is kept on a game-to-game basis, where every dropped point could prove costly.

“Relentlessness is probably the main word in and around the squad, we want to keep winning games, gather as many points as possible and win trophies,” he told Sky Sports.

“You can’t do that without being consistent in tournaments and over the league campaign, and that’s what we want to be: consistent and hopefully rack up as many points as possible.

“We’ve seen last season that getting a big amount was still not enough so we need to pick up as many points as possible and that’s what we hope to do.”

The driving force behind the squad’s will to win is the manager, with Klopp clearly having a big influence on those he works with on a regular basis.

“[The belief] comes from the manager and the way he tells us to play football.

“We know if we go a goal down we’ve got the players, got the squad, the bench who will come on win us games, get equalisers.

“You’ve seen at Man United with Adam [Lallana] coming on late doors and getting the equaliser which was vitally important for us. We just know when we go a goal down to calm down, don’t panic, don’t start forcing things and keep playing the way we want to play.”
