Your support makes all the difference.Jürgen Klopp is the man who can end Liverpool’s 25-year league title wait, according to one of his former player’s in Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
Klopp will take charge of his first match for Liverpool since replacing Brendan Rodgers at the helm, although he faces the difficult prospect of a trip to White Hart Lane to play Tottenham in the lunch-time kick-off on Saturday.
Much is expected of the former Dortmund head coach, who guided the German side to back-to-back Bundesliga successes between 2010 and 2012 and also led them to a Champions League final appearance.
Klopp has already suffered two major setbacks since arriving on Merseyside as both defender Joe Gomez and striker Danny Ings have been ruled out for the rest of the season with anterior cruciate knee ligament injuries, but Hummels believes Klopp fits the bill to win a first Premier League title for the Reds and end their barren run without a league success that dates back to 1990.
“I am convinced Klopp can win the league at Liverpool,” said Hummels.
“He has shown he doesn’t need the biggest transfer budget or the biggest name to win the biggest trophies.
He is a winner, I know him. His long term goal won’t just be to qualify for the Champions League
“Of course there are teams in England that have no financial restrictions when it comes to buying players, but he showed at Dortmund that he has the intelligence to combat that. Perhaps not immediately, but in time I am sure that he can.
“He is a winner, I know him. His long term goal won’t just be to qualify for the Champions League, and settle for that.
“It will be to challenge Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal for the title, and he is absolutely capable of doing that.”
Klopp takes over Liverpool with the club sitting in 10th in the league table, although they are just six points off leaders Manchester City. The 48-year-old faces a tricky start to life in England, as Liverpool follow up their Spurs encounter with Premier League games against Southampton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and City, as well as two Europe League games against Rubin Kazan and a Capital One Cup tie with Bournemouth.
