From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Portsmouth chairman, Milan Mandaric, has warned Tottenham to stay away from his team's manager, Harry Redknapp.
Spurs are thought to be ready to move for Redknapp as a replacement for Glenn Hoddle, who is under increasing pressure at White Hart Lane. Pompey have made a flying start in the Premiership under Redknapp, who has two years left on his contract.
"I'm not surprised by the speculation because Tottenham aren't doing very well and we are, so perhaps some people are looking to make some changes," Mandaric said. "We have no intention to part with Harry and there's nothing in this story whatsoever.".
He added: "In football people move around and other clubs are poaching managers. But there's a certain code of ethics in the Premiership which I respect very much and would think that Spurs and any other club would do the same.
"They would have to contact me if they have any desire to talk to Harry but at this moment I have not heard anything from anyone. Most importantly, I'm not interested in hearing from anyone, and he will be staying for at least the next year or two."
Mandaric also denied that his relationship with Redknapp was coming under increasing strain to due to financial constraints.
The Pompey chairman happily bankrolled Redknapp's signings of 13 players, including three on loan, over the summer, and he said: "It's total nonsense. We're good friends and Harry has got all the funds he needed, and he signed every player he wanted."
Meanwhile, Patrik Berger could be back in action for Portsmouth in three weeks rather than the expected six. The Czech Republic international midfielder was thought to have torn his groin in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Arsenal. But the injury is not as bad as first feared and the former Liverpool man's return is now expected early next month.
