Goals from Mousa Dembele, Heung-min Son, Harry Kane and Vincent Janssen saw Spurs cruise past Bournemouth to narrow the gap at the top to just four.
Chelsea now travel to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon knowing they cannot afford to drop points with Pochettino’s side ready to pounce should Antonio Conte’s men slip up.
“It was important for us to get the three points and we got the three points,” he said after the match at White Hart Lane. “Now the pressure is on Chelsea to win at Old Trafford.
“Tomorrow will be a very tough game for them but there are still lots of games to play. It will be fantastic if after the game tomorrow the gap is still four points.”
Tottenham found themselves in a similar position a year ago pushing Leicester all the way before collapsing late on to allow the Foxes to claim a fairytale title.
Pochettino is proud of the way his side is playing and to be up there challenging once again is a real sign of how far his club have come in recent years.
“The gap is still four points which is a lot,” he added. “If they drop points tomorrow it will be fantastic but they are still the favourites to win the Premier League. We are fighting for ourselves to be there.
“To be fighting for the top four for the second consecutive season is great for the players and fantastic for the club.”
Goalscorer Kane was delighted to return to the starting line-up after five weeks out as he made it 20 Premier League goals for the third season in a row.
He said: "It's great. It's good to be consistent as a striker. I want to do it year in, year out, and it's good to get three years in a row but we still have a lot to play for this season so I try not think about it too much.
"We want to win games and we have a big game next week in the cup and (we have to) push until the end of the season."
