Jan Vertoghen looks set to be the next Tottenham star to sign an extended contract with the club, but Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris will not be following him for the time being.

The Belgian, whose current £60,000-a-week contract expires in 2018, has agreed a new deal with Spurs to put him amongst their top earners – not he still will not earn over £100,000-a-week.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy keeps a strict limit on his wage structure and refuses to pay an player a six-figure salary per week, although that is being put to the test by captain Lloris and Kane.

Lloris’ contract expires in 2019 and he is demanding a significant pay rise if he is to extend his stay at White Hart Lane, with the Frenchman reportedly believing the two parties are a ‘million miles apart’ from agreeing terms, according to the Mirror.

Talks have now been put on ice until the summer with last season’s top scorer Kane also putting his talks on hold.

Like Vertonghen, Kane is also currently on £60,000-a-week, and is keen to secure a contract at least as good as Jamie Vardy’s £100,000-a-week deal which he signed at Leicester during the summer.

However Levy remains reluctant to break his wage structure as the club prepares to move to their new stadium, which has led to a stalemate between the player and club.

However, Vertonghen is expected to sign and follow the lead of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker in committing their futures to the club.
