Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle feels his old club are facing a “make-or-break” campaign, with several stars potentially considering their futures if Spurs do not achieve success.

Jose Mourinho is reshaping the team to compete for honours once more, but Spurs have fallen away significantly in the 16 months since they reached a European final in Madrid, sacking Mauricio Pochettino since then and finishing outside the top four last term.

Another rebuild isn’t ideal for top players who invested a long portion of their career into getting Spurs into that position in the first place, says Hoddle, and the likes of England captain Harry Kane could be set for departures if 2020/21 doesn’t yield trophies.

“Kane needs a bit of silverware at the end of this season if he's going to stay,” he said on Punching TV.

"I think Gareth Bale's come to win trophies for Tottenham. I think Son [Heung-min] is another one who wants to win something for them.

"There are a lot of players there who put in a lot of hard work building Tottenham up in the last four or five years.

"They've got to the Champions League final, but they haven't won anything.

"They haven't got anything to show for the work that has been put in and it's a make-or-break season for them."

Spurs have brought in Bale on loan from Real Madrid and signed left-back Sergio Reguilon from the same club, while Joe Hart has been signed as cover in goal.

The club are still thought to want another striker in this transfer window, with the likes of Arkadiusz Milik, Haris Seferovic and Patson Daka all variously linked over the past few weeks.
