Your support makes all the difference.Fresh from scoring the winning goal in Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, talented midfielder Christian Eriksen is close to agreeing a new contract that will reward him with a significant pay increase.
Eriksen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013, and after a slow start to his career at White Hart Lane, the Denmark international is flourishing under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino in 2016.
The attacking midfielder has proven to be one of the first names on the team-sheet in recent weeks given his upturn in form, and is a big factor – along with the form of Harry Kane and Dele Alli – behind the club’s current Premier League standing in second place.
Following Sunday’s crucial victory over City that reduced the gap to leaders Leicester City to just two points, the Evening Standard reports that Eriksen is close to a new contract extension that will run until 2020, which will see his current deal due to expire in 2018 topped up by two years.
As well as the long-term contract, Eriksen is set to see his wages rise to around £50,000-a-week, and the player admitted that he has held “positive talks” with the club.
The 24-year-old will be the latest young player to tie down their future to the club after Pochettino embarked on a campaign to secure the next generation at White Hart Lane. Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier have all committed their future to Spurs in the form of new contracts signed this season as a reward for their form, while 18-year-old prospect Joshua Onomah has also put pen to paper having been used this season in both the Premier League and Europe League campaigns.
