Kane's swelling on his ankle ligament injury means he will be forced undergo a second scan next week.
The England striker sustained the problem against Sunderland last week and is expected to be sidelined for two months.
He will miss Saturday's game at Middlesbrough where Dutch striker Vincent Janssen will once again deputise.
"We are waiting for another scan next week and then we assess much better and will know his recovery," said Pochettino.
"We have to wait for the next scan as there's still swelling on the ankle and we have to wait a few days more.
"He got the injury against Sunderland last Sunday and we have to be postive in his recovery to help him.
"He is very positive and feels good. He is in a good mood which is very important to have all the energy to be focused and be available as quick as possible."
Spurs are among three Premier League teams who remain unbeaten, alongside Manchester City and Everton, and head to the Riverside where Pochettino will pit his wits with with Spaniard Aitor Karanka.
The pair are close friends having completed their coaching badges together and Pochettino added: "I think after two years they achieved promotion to the Premier League which is a fantastic job.
"He is still very young and know him very well. We have a good relationship."
