Tottenham captain Michael Dawson has penned a new three-year deal at White Hart Lane, the Barclays Premier League club have announced.

The 29-year-old defender, who has been at the club since January 2005, has now extended his stay until 2016.

Dawson made the move to Spurs from Nottingham Forest and has since established himself as a vital cog at the heart of the defence, making 293 career appearances to date and scoring 10 goals.

He was a member of the squad which secured a first-ever top-four finish in the Premier League in 2009/10, with Spurs then going on to reach the last eight of the Champions League the following season.

Yorkshire-born Dawson has also been capped four times by England.
