Thibaut Courtois injury: Chelsea have fears over finger injury to goalkeeper

Jose Mourinho admits that the club have fears over a finger injury to Thibaut Courtois which required treatment during the 5-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Thursday.

The Chelsea manager said he did not know whether the goalkeeper had broken his finger. Courtois said at half-time of the game that he could carry on. He was unlikely to feature in Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie with Watford with Petr Cech likely to come back into the side.

Gary Cahill will face no further action from the Football Association over his kick at Harry Kane during the game at White Hart Lane. The referee’s report said that one of the assistants witnessed the incident and no disciplinary action will be taken.

Mourinho said that there would not be much opportunity for his younger academy-developed players in the FA Cup tie because there were others in his first team squad who needed to play games. “I have other players who are in front of them,” he said. “Even I want to make changes. I have [John Obi] Mikel and Ramires, who we have to have in condition to play. Hopefully Ramires is getting there step by step … finally, it looks like he's getting there.”

John Terry has repeated Mourinho’s claims that referees are being influenced by Chelsea’s reputation and that decisions are going against the club. Asked whether he felt there was a campaign, as Mourinho described it, Terry said: “A little bit. There have been a lot of highlights on the television and in the papers as well, which is unfair.

“I think the refs have to come into the games with a clear mind and judge each game as it is. You can’t go into a game thinking ‘someone did this, someone did that’. There are reputations out there, but the referees have got to come into it with a clear mind and I think the last two games we have been denied two clear penalties.”
