Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Stuart Pearce was once one of England's most loved footballers.
After a heartbreaking miss in the 1990 World Cup semi-final penalty shootout defeat to Germany, Pearce redeemed himself with a brilliant penalty (and celebration) against Spain at Euro 96.
Everybody loved Psycho.
After retiring, Pearce became a manager in the Premier League with Manchester City, England Under-21s and the Great Britain teams at the London 2012 Olympics.
He even took caretaker charge of England in February 2012 after Fabio Capello resigned.
Ahead of the Manchester derby, Pearce was asked to name a combined XI for the game - and produced a slightly baffling team.
Pearce's team: Hart; Valencia, Kompany, Jones, Blind; Carrick, Toure; Mata, Fellaini, Young; Young.
Selecting a 4-2-3-1 formation, Pearce angered people by picking Joe Hart ahead of David De Gea, Antonio Valencia ahead of Pablo Zabaleta and Marouane Fellaini and Ashley Young instead of City pair David Silva and Sergio Aguero.
