From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Michael Laudrup, the Swansea City manager, has reiterated his commitment to the club following a summer bust-up and says he turned down approaches from Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and Fenerbahce to stay.
The club chairman, Huw Jenkins, and Laudrup's agent, Bayram Tutumlu, had a public spat over transfers at the end of May, leading to the Welsh club cutting all ties with the Dane's long-term representative.
That raised a question over whether Laudrup could continue as manager, but, in his first major interview since the row, the 49-year-old said: "I am still with both. I am at Swansea and very happy to be working with these players because I still think we have something interesting here. But I have been with Bayram for so many years and I will continue being with him."
Speaking during Swansea's pre- season tour here in the Netherlands, Laudrup added: "I don't have to choose between one and the other. It's my agent and my working place and it is two different situations. It's not one club or another I have to choose. And it's not about my kids or wife – now that would be different. My relationship with the chairman is the same as it always has been. [My agent's] relationship with the club is none of my business."
Laudrup revealed he turned down the chance to quit Swansea and go abroad, adding: "Yes there were clubs – a couple of big ones as well – wanted me but it never became anything more than that. As I've said and confirmed many times I wanted to stay."
The Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony should become the sixth close-season recruit to join Swansea for a club record £12m fee from Vitesse Arnhem in the next 24 hours.
