Gylfi Sigurdsson went closest for the Swans when his right-footed curling effort forced Simon Mignolet into an excellent diving save.
But with the attacking qualities that Liverpool possess they were always going to get opportunities as long as they persisted with the creative style Rodgers likes to use.
It paid dividends on 68 minutes when a Martin Skrtel pass deflected off Daniel Sturridge and through the middle before Jordi Amat tried to clear only for the ball to rebound off the shin of Henderson and over Lukasz Fabianski in the Swansea goal.
Coutinho came close to extending his side’s lead minutes later but his right-footed effort didn’t have enough swing on it and went wide of Fabianski’s goal. In stoppage time Sturridge nearly sealed the victory but his shot bounced off the post and went wide.
The victory for Liverpool moved them within two points of Manchester United, who they play on Sunday, meaning a top-four place by the end of the week is in their hands.
