United have a chance to close the gap on rivals Manchester City, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side taking on Tottenham on Sunday.
Manager Louis van Gaal has decided to retain the bulk of the side that drew 1-1 with Chelsea last weekend, although Fellaini is ruled out through injury.
With United’s squad stretched to is bare bones due to injury, reserve players James Weir and Donald Love are included on the bench alongside striker Will Keane, who has impressed for the Under-21s of late.
Sunderland meanwhile make two changes from the side that battled to a 2-2 draw with Liverpool last weekend. Manager
Mark Hughes brings Deandre Yedlin into defence with Billy Jones ruled out through injury, while striker Duncan Watmore is replaced by on-loan forward Dame N’Doye.
