From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tottenham travel to take on Charlton Athletic tonight in the Premiership with the Spurs players determined put aside the disappointment of their FA Cup elimination against Newcastle United.
Spurs went out of the FA Cup after a 1-0 defeat on Tyneside, with a number of controversial decisions by the referee, Rob Styles. But Martin Jol's side want to make amends by winning a European place with their remaining Premiership games.
They could yet qualify for the Uefa Cup by finishing in seventh place this season and the midfielder Simon Davies believes it is important they do not dwell on Sunday's defeat at St James' Park. Davies said: "We've got to try and achieve something through the League. If we carry on performing like we did against Newcastle we are not going to lose many games, that's for sure. It is hard to think positively or take some heart from the performance because we are all so down, but I think it will come through."
Ledley King, whose error allowed Alan Shearer to cross the ball for Patrick Kluivert's winner, agrees any lingering disappointment must be out of their system or they will fail to gain anything at The Valley. King said: "Charlton are in a similar position to us in the League and it is a real tough game," King said. "It will be an important three points and we've got to make sure it is us that gets them.
"That is what we do have to take into the next game," King added, "the fact that we have played well [against Newcastle] and if we play like that against Charlton I am sure we will get the points."
King will captain Spurs against Charlton with just Pedro Mendes missing from the squad, though Mido is doubtful. Mendes is recovering from a broken toe while Mido is still suffering the effects of a persistent groin problem. The Egyptian striker will have a late fitness test. At least Spurs welcome back Andy Reid into the squad - he was Cup-tied for the Newcastle defeat.
The Charlton manager, Alan Curbishley, has a fully-fit squad for the match as they too push for a European place. Kevin Lisbie returns from a three-match suspension, but Curbishley is likely to stick with Shaun Bartlett alone up front.
The Danish winger Dennis Rommedahl is pushing to start for the first time since he was dropped after the FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Leicester City last month.
