From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Louis van Gaal revealed that the Colombian striker is incapable of playing for more than 20 minutes at a time (something his wife refutes) in the build-up to tonight's match at St Mary's. It's likely the on-loan striker will get his chance from the bench, as he has done in United's last two matches.
Wayne Rooney returns to the starting line-up having missed last week's victory over Stoke City. The captain has recovered from a knee injury sustained against Hull City. He partners Roboin van Persie in attack.
Angel Di Maria remains out with a hamstring injury.
For Southampton midfielder Jack Cork is out, and will be for six weeks, with an ankle injury.
Toby Alderweireld and Morgan Schneiderlin are also out for the hosts but Dusan Tadic has overcome a knock and is in the starting XI.
Southampton XI: Forster, Clyne, Yoshida, Fonte, Bertrand, Davis, Mane, Tadic, Wanyama, Long, Pelle

Manchester United XI: De Gea, McNair, Smalling, Rojo, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Young, Mata, Rooney, van Persie
