It’s a big game for…

Sadio Mane: The Liverpool forward, signed from Southampton in the summer, was a constant thorn in the Reds’ side at his previous club, scoring four goals in his last three games between the two clubs. Liverpool will hope he can continue such form in this fixture and get one over his old side.

Best stat…

The Saints have dropped eight points from leading positions this season, more than any other side in the league.

Remember when…

Sadio Mane scored a first-minute goal for Southampton in a League Cup fifth round game against Liverpool last season. It went significantly downhill for the Saints from then on as Liverpool put six past them in reply, with young Belgian striker Divock Origi notching a hat-trick and Daniel Sturridge scoring two.

Player to watch…

Virgil van Dijk: One of the best defenders in the Premier League this season, van Dijk will have to be on top form to keep out the Reds’ in-form front three of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Mane. Liverpool are also the league’s top scorers and the former Celtic defender will be looking to help Southampton to their first clean sheet since a 0-0 draw with Leicester on 2 October.
