The Kenyan midfielder received his marching orders after a recklessly late foul on Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe earned him a second yellow card in 73rd minute of the match at Carrow Road.
Norwich rallied and took advantage of Wanyama’s dismissal, scoring the only goal of the game through Alexander Tettey just three minutes later.
The win took Alex Neil’s side to within one point of Southampton, who have now won just one of their last eight league games.
Wanyama has now admitted that his tackle was ‘reckless’ and ‘irresponsible’, writing on his Instagram account: “I would just like to apologise to the manager, fans and everyone at the club for my red card [on Saturday].

“It was reckless and irresponsible and I should have used my experience to have not let it happen, especially when I was on a yellow card.
“I now just want to focus on getting back on the pitch and helping the team as much as I can.”
As he was sent off for a second bookable offence, Wanyama will be suspended for one game, namely his side’s FA Cup third-round tie with Crystal Palace next Saturday.
The former Celtic midfielder could return for the visit of Watford to St. Mary’s in the Premier League on 13 January.
