Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Graeme Souness, the Blackburn Rovers manager, is planning to sign Jody Morris from Chelsea in an end-of-season move – for nothing.

The England Under-21 midfielder has yet to agree a new deal beyond the end of his current contract, which expires in three months, at Stamford Bridge. Souness is a big admirer of Morris and, because the player is 24, there would be no transfer fee if he leaves London for Lancashire in the summer.

Newcastle United last night completed the signing of the Ipswich Town midfielder, Darren Ambrose, for a fee of about £1m. The deal is possible despite the Premiership transfer window being closed because the Suffolk club are in administration.

However, the England Under-21 international could find himself at Portman Road for the remainder of the First Division season because he may be loaned back to Ipswich by the Magpies. Despite their financial crisis, which has forced them to listen to any offer for their players, Joe Royle's side are in contention for a play-off place.

Everton are to complain to the Premier League about the referee Alan Wiley singling out Duncan Ferguson – even before he came on as a substitute against Arsenal in Sunday's Premiership match. Their manager David Moyes is furious that Wiley could be heard shouting to a linesman "keep an eye on him" as the feisty Scot joined the game at Highbury.

Millwall's First Division match against Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday has been postponed, after both sides had three players called up for international duty.
