Last night, the Blues reached the Europa League final with victory over Basel, and while Ferguson commended the interim-manager he also took the opportunity to mock his old adversary.
"He is very concerned about his CV. He refers to it quite a lot," said Ferguson during a press conference this morning.
Before adding: "But you can't dispute the fact he has done a good job in the last few weeks."
Chelsea travel to Old Trafford this weekend badly in need of points as they chase a place in next season's Champions League. The west London club are currently in a fierce battle with Tottenham and Arsenal for two places among the top four.
Despite a hectic schedule, Chelsea remain on course to qualify for next season's elite European competition, and Ferguson has suggested that their late push has been helped by Chelsea fans getting off the back of Benitez.
"The key to it is that the fans have settled down a little bit. They have left him alone. He has got on with managing his job.
"It can't be easy, listening to pressure from the fans all the time.
"They have eased up. It has allowed him to relax and they have produced some good results."
It has been claimed this morning that Jose Mourinho will confirm his return to Stamford Bridge on July 1.
Ferguson can see why that would happen.
But he does not know if it will.
"I don't know if that is happening," he said.
"I have no idea what Jose is doing.
"He said he is loved by one English team and going back is a big attraction for him, if his time at Madrid is finished of course.
"But I have no knowledge of that."
Benitez is certain to leave at the end of the season but before he does - he has a chance to add to that CV.
