From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A 1-0 win at Charlton, courtesy of a goal by their bright young prospect, James Milner came on the day that a much-needed takeover of the club was reportedly resurrected.
Sheikh Abdul bin Mubarak Al-Khalifa is apparently ready to lead a consortium in a takeover bid even though it was thought that the Bahraini's enthuasiasm for the project had been damaged by the club's statement to the Stock Exchange on Wednesday that it may have to go into administration in order to cope with £80m debts.
The sheikh was reported in France as saying a deal could yet be struck. He described the consortium as "a group of investors in the Gulf, not only Bahrain, that I direct myself that is going to take over the English club.
My relations with the club go back 25 years and I am saddened by its current situation because they are bottom of the table".
They remain there despite yesterday's victory at The Valley where the 17-year-old side-footed home Mark Viduka's pass from close range to end Leeds' run of six successive defeats and Charlton's seven-match unbeaten Premiership run.
