Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Savage's appeal against the maximum two-week penalty for using the toilet in referee Graham Poll's room at Filbert Street prior to last weekend's Premiership game against Aston Villa led to the club softening their original hard line. But Savage still faces an investigation by the FA and he will be fined by Leicester if the improper conduct charge is upheld. He was reported to the FA by Poll for entering the officials' dressing-room without permission
Savage will call for team-mates to give evidence to Bean, backing up his claim that Poll laughed at the incident. The Welsh international has also stressed, in a letter to the Leicester board, that his actions were neither a joke nor done for a bet.
Savage is also reportedly fuming at suggestions that George Boateng will be let off by the FA after throwing Leicester's Paul Dickov's boot into the crowd at the end of the game with Aston Villa.
The Villa midfielder has yet to be charged with any offence and the FA would only say last night: "We are still considering that incident."
