Newcastle's England Under-21 midfielder Sammy Ameobi could be sidelined for several months by an injury suffered on reserve-team duty.

The 19-year-old, younger brother of Shola Ameobi, limped off during the reserve team's 3-1 victory over Wigan on Tuesday with initial reports he had damaged a knee. A club spokesman said: "Sammy Ameobi will be sidelined for a period of time, likely to be a number of months, as a result of an injury sustained in the reserves' win over Wigan." He has made has made 13 first-team appearances this season.
