Ryan Giggs today announced his retirement from playing football and he will now become Manchester United assistant coach under Louis Van Gaal.

Giggs made a record 963 appearances for United, as well as 64 for Wales.

The 40-year-old is the most decorated player in English football, having won 13 league titles, four FA Cups and two Champions Leagues, among a haul that amounts to 34 trophies.

Giggs' last appearance for United came as a replacement for youngster Tom Lawrence in the last 20 minutes of the 3-1 win over Hull on 6 May.
