From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United.
The veteran Welshman had already indicated his wish to continue his career into a remarkable 21st season at Old Trafford and United have today confirmed the deal has been signed.
"All I've ever wanted to do is play for United and I've been lucky enough to do that for 20 years," said Giggs.
"It is great to know I'm still contributing to the team's success and I feel I've got a lot to offer on and off the pitch.
"This is an exciting time to be involved with so many good young players coming through."
Despite celebrating his 37th birthday in November, Giggs is still making a massive contribution to the Red Devils' cause.
It was his superb pass that set Nani up for the opening goal in last weekend's Manchester derby triumph that keeps the Welshman on target for a record 12th championship.
He has already scorched past 800 appearances for the club and recently played his 600th Premier League game.
"You run out of words to describe Ryan Giggs," said Sir Alex Ferguson. "He is a marvellous player and a wonderful man.
"To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level in such a physically demanding position at his age requires a special person.
"He is still turning in man-of-the-match performances and his experience is so vital for the younger players in the squad."
