From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Johnson, who will be under consideration for Saturday's crucial home Barclays Premier League encounter with fellow strugglers Blackburn, has been disciplined by the club after making what Connor described as "a mistake" with his behaviour on Sunday night in the aftermath of the 5-0 defeat at Fulham.
Connor, who is in charge of the team until the end of the season, said: "Roger reported for work and he wasn't fit to train - or fit to train properly.
"He made a mistake on Sunday night, he came in on Monday morning, we dealt with it on Tuesday.
"I spoke to him and said 'what you did was unacceptable'. We dealt with that matter, we finished with it on the Tuesday and we have moved on from there.
"I would be disappointed with any player who came in not fit to train properly. He has apologised for it, he came in, he knows he did wrong, and he has taken his punishment."
When asked if Johnson would stay as skipper, Connor said: "I've got no immediate plans to change anything. It has been dealt with. We move on from there.
"He carries on as captain for the foreseeable future. He has prepared all week, has done really well apart from Monday, he is in consideration for Saturday."
Johnson was immediately axed by Connor from the starting line-up after replacing the sacked Mick McCarthy as captain. He has been an unused substitute for the 2-2 draw at Newcastle and the mauling at Craven Cottage.
When asked if Johnson's behaviour was a reaction to being dropped, Connor said: "You will have to ask Roger that. He made his mistake and he has apologised for it and taken his punishment."
Midfielder Dave Edwards resumed training today after being recently sidelined by a knee problem, but winger Stephen Hunt went to see a specialist after being troubled by his hernia complaint.
