Your support makes all the difference.Tottenham Hotspur have their best ever chance to win the Premier League, according to manager Harry Redknapp. Spurs play Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup this afternoon, but it is their position at the halfway point of the League which has so obviously thrilled Redknapp.
"We're in a great position," Redknapp said yesterday. "We were fourth last year at this stage, so it's not something that we haven't done before, we've been up there, the year before [that] we finished fourth. So we've been in and around it for the last couple of years.
"With a bit of luck we can be bang in there again this year. We've got a better chance this year, more points on the board than we've ever had, so we've given ourselves a real chance to have a great second half of the season."
Michael Dawson returns as captain today, after four months out with an Achilles injury. "To have him back now would be a big bonus," Redknapp said. "He's top class. We need him fit, and we need him back. With William [Gallas] going out injured now we need him to get a few games in, and get himself back in contention to be in the team again."
A lack of fit defenders meant that Redknapp had to turn down a loan request by 21-year-old full-back Danny Rose. "Danny Rose just came to see me to ask if he can go on loan," he said, "I can't loan him out now. If Benoit [Assou-Ekotto] gets injured, he's in. I've got no cover at right back at all, I've got one right back – [Kyle] Walker. "
In terms of recruitment, though, Redknapp said he would only want "someone to take us on to an even better level". He admitted to admiring Bolton's Gary Cahill, but said if Spurs made an offer Chelsea would "blow them out of the water with wages".
