Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In pictures published by The Sun, the £49million man has again been snapped exhaling a plume of smoke - the incident is said to have taken place at the Marina Lounge, a Shisha bar in Wembley, north west London, on Saturday night.
Sterling was also at the bar on Tuesday night, with an image appearing on their instagram account, although there is no suggestion he was smoking shisha that night.
Sterling has previously been pictured inhaling the legal tobacco mix previously, as well as allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, which is also legal but can cause death from lack of oxygen.
Speaking in April, then-Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers warned Sterling, and former team-mate Jordon Ibe, about his responsibilities as a prefessional footballer in the public eye.
"There also needs to be an understanding that when you are a professional, elite sportsperson, there are things you can and cannot be doing – not just for your own welfare but because of the responsibilities you have," said Rodgers.
Sterling, who scored for England against Estonia at Wembley 24 hours before the picture was allegedly taken, flew out to Lithuania with the rest of Roy Hodgson's squad on Sunday for the final match of their Euro 2016 qualification campaign.
An onlooker told The Sun: "It was a surprise to see a high-profile player smoking a shisha pipe. He was out with mates and clearly enjoying himself."
