With confirmation that the remainder of the Premier League season will be played behind closed doors, the vast majority of clubs have committed to offering supporters full pro-rata refunds on their season tickets.

It’s estimated that in excess of £175m will be returned to supporters, but as Newcastle United teeters in limbo, awaiting the Premier League’s decision on their Saudi-backed takeover, the club’s supporters have also been left looking for answers.

The Newcastle United Supporters Trust issued a letter to managing director Lee Charnley on 29 May calling for refunds for season ticket holders and single-ticket purchases.

However, as of yet, there has still been no action from the club as they await the result of the Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test.

Here is a guide to every Premier League club’s stance on season ticket refunds:

Arsenal

Arsenal have confirmed that matchday supporters at the Emirates will receive a refund or credit for tickets.

A club statement read: “Supporters will be entitled to a credit or refund for any match tickets or hospitality they have already purchased for future behind-closed doors matches in the 2019/20 season.

“Whether as part of a season ticket or for an individual match, supporters will be offered a credit for next season or a refund. This behind-closed doors credit will be in addition to the two unused cup credits already due to general admission season ticket holders.”

Aston Villa

Aston Villa were due to play six more games at home, meaning season ticket holders could ask for up to a third of their value in the form of a credit or refund.

The club have confirmed that individual ticket holders will receive a full refund while season ticket holders will be given the choice of a refund or an e-voucher which can be used against future purchases or for donations to the Aston Villa Foundation.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth have confirmed that all supporters will be refunded the value of their remaining tickets for home matches this season.

“Supporters who purchased their season ticket or match-by-match ticket(s) using a credit or debit card will be automatically refunded, to the original payment card, via the club’s ticketing system,” a statement read.

Brighton

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber has confirmed that the club will refund season ticket holders on a pro-rata basis or use the sum again the cost of their renewal for the 2020/21 season.

“For those who wish to be refunded (or those who do not respond) payments will be reversed and paid back to the credit card, debit card or taken off remaining direct debit payments,” he said.

Burnley

Burnley have confirmed that supporters will receive a refund for their remaining home fixtures.

A club statement read: “We are able to confirm that all supporters with tickets for the Clarets’ remaining four home Premier League fixtures of the 2019/20 season and the away fixture at Manchester City, which was scheduled for March, are now entitled to a full refund.”

Chelsea

Chelsea have also confirmed that supporters will be contacted this week regarding refunds, and have also created an option whereby the money can be donated towards NHS charities.

“Chelsea men’s season ticket holders, including hospitality ticket holders and those on the UK away scheme, will be contacted by the end of this week to inform them of the credit or refund process for the remaining Premier League games. Individual match ticket holders for the remaining games will also be contacted regarding refunds.”

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have confirmed that all season ticket holders will be entitled to a pro-rata refund for their remaining four matches this season.

“As it is now clear that remaining games in the 2019/20 season will be played behind closed doors, all season ticket holders are entitled to a refund – a pro-rata amount for the four home matches remaining,” a statement read.

Everton

Everton have announced that all season ticket holders will receive a refund for their remaining four home matches.

“Everton has confirmed all fans with tickets for the club’s remaining five home Premier League fixtures of the 2019/20 season will be able to claim a refund due to the increasing expectation that – should the remaining games be played – they will take place behind closed doors,” a club statement read.

Leicester City

Leicester’s chief executive Susan Whelan has confirmed that supporters will be entitled to refunds for the club’s remaining home fixtures.

“We have been awaiting clarification on the remaining competition format and, while the details of 2020/21 season tickets are still to be determined, we felt it important today to respond immediately to our fans, and to return monies already paid in this time of need for many,” she said.

Liverpool

Liverpool have announced that all season ticket holder will receive a pro-rata refund for their remaining home fixtures.

“Season ticket holders will receive a full pro-rata refund for all remaining home games, while members who have purchased tickets on a match-by-match basis will receive a refund for any of the matches that they have purchased tickets for,” the club confirmed in a statement.

Manchester City

Manchester City have confirmed that all season ticket holders will be entitled to a refund for their remaining six home matches.

“Given the announcement, Seasoncard holders will now be offered a refund equating to six the value of the remaining six home Premier League games. Supporters who had purchased individual tickets for Premier League fixtures or any cup fixture will also receive a full refund.”

Manchester United

Manchester United will refund all season ticket holders for their remaining home fixtures.

“We are committed to refunding ticket costs for these games and want to make the process as easy as possible for all supporters,” a statement read.

Newcastle

The club is yet to announce its plans regarding the refunding of season tickets.

Norwich City

Norwich will also offer pro-rata refunds to all season ticket holders for the club’s remaining home fixtures.

“Season ticket holders and members will be entitled to a full pro-rata refund for all games that they are no longer able to attend,” a club statement read.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United are currently weighing up options regarding refunds, with fans set to be offered either a pro-rata refund on their four remaining home fixtures or the option to use the money against their season ticket cost for the 2020/21 season.

Southampton

Southampton supporters will be offered a full pro-rata refund, with the club planning to share details on 15 June.

“There will be a number of options available including carrying over the credit against a 2020/21 Season Ticket, a donation to the work of Saints Foundation, or a direct refund,” a statement read.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have also confirmed that supporters will be entitled to refunds for their remaining home fixtures.

“Refunds will be processed on a match by match basis and supporters with tickets for multiple matches will receive a refund for each match. Due to the volume of transactions to be refunded, we ask supporters to allow up to three weeks for all refunds to be processed and cleared,” a statement read.

Watford

Watford have confirmed that supporters will be able to claim a full refund for the remaining five fixtures due to be played at Vicarage Road.

West Ham

West Ham will offer fans cash refunds for their remaining home fixtures. However, they have urged supporters to consider accepting refunds as club cash e-credit to help the club deal with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Wolves

Wolves have confirmed that supporters will be able to claim a full refund or be issued credit towards their 2020/21 season ticket.

A club statement from Wolves read: “Season ticket holders, that will no longer be able to attend the remaining four home league fixtures of the season, will be issued pro-rata credit towards their 2020/21 season ticket. This credit will be automatically applied at renewal, so supporters will not need to take any proactive measures to ensure that this happens. ​Any season ticket holder that wishes to request a refund, instead of receiving credit towards their 2020/21 season ticket, will be able to do so.”
