Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has been included on the shortlist for September’s Premier League player of the month award – his first month at the Old Trafford side.

The French forward scored as a substitute on his debut in the 3-1 home win over Liverpool, while also scoring twice in the 3-2 win at Southampton eight days later and starting the 3-0 win over Sunderland as Louis van Gaal’s side completed a clean sweep of victories in the month. The 19-year-old also netted in the League Cup success over Ipswich Town.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris aims to become the first goalkeeper to win the award in almost two years after keeping clean sheets in wins over Sunderland and Crystal Palace and performing well in the 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City, while Watford striker Odion Ighalo seeks the award after scoring three times as Watford took six points from nine in the month.

Another Old Trafford player, Daley Blind, is also in the final six, along with England new boy Jamie Vardy – currently the League top’s scorer – and West Ham’s summer signing Dimitri Payet.

Swansea forward Andre Ayew won the August award, while September’s winner will be announced on Friday morning.
