The Magpies are in a similar state of turmoil this time as they prepare to host Hull. Newcastle are glued to the bottom of the table having not won a game this season and fans are calling for Pardew’s head.
Owner Mike Ashley has been scrutinised as it appears that Pardew has had little control over Newcastle’s transfer dealings - the loss of Hatem Ben Arfa and Matheiu Debuchy has angered fans, while new signings such as £6m Emmanuel Riviere have failed to impress.
Hull meanwhile have had a hugely successful summer, with exciting talents such as Mohamed Diame, Abel Hernandez and Ben Arfa joining Steve Bruce’s squad. The former two both scored against West Ham on Monday and these appear to be exciting times for the team. Owner Assem Allam has put the club up for sale as he fights for a change of name to Hull Tigers, but Bruce has appealed for calm from Hull supporters.
