From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It hasn’t been a great week for Newcastle United. After suffering a 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Monday night, the Magpies go into this weekend’s tie against seventh placed Tottenham Hotpurs in a mild state of disarray.
St James Park could make for an eerily quiet place come Sunday evening, with many home fans expected to boycott the match in protest over the ambition of club chairman Mike Ashley.
Spurs will be hoping to capitalise upon Newcastle’s ill fortunes to reignite their own campaign, after suffering a recent defeat to Aston Villa and being held 0-0 by strugglers Burnley within the last month. With the Premier League’s joint leading goalscorer Harry Kane failing to find the net on both these occasions, the Englishman will be keen to pick up where he left off with a hatrick against Leicester City in March and finish his remarkable individual season in style.
Newcastle will be without midfield stalwart Moussa Sissoko, with the Frenchman suspended after seeing red following a lunge on Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva on Monday night. Papiss Cisse is also serving suspension while winger Rolando Aarons will be watching from the stands - the England u20 international expected to miss the rest of the season following a hamstring injury. The Magpies’ Steven Taylor, Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara, Cheick Tiote and Siem de Jong are also sidelined with injuries.
