The abdication of Sir Alex Ferguson, after 27 years at the helm, will ensure emotions will be running high among the Old Trafford faithful. A good proportion of fans will never have seen any other man sat in the dugout and it remains to be seen how they will react to seeing their manager leave his seat for the last time.
In essence, the day won’t even be about the champions, nor Paul Scholes even, but about Ferguson. As is customary of the last home game of the season, the manager is due to make his annual speech. With Friday’s usual pre-match press conference at Carrington cancelled, many will be eager to hear his first words since the statement released on Wednesday.
The match is sure to be ceremonial with neither team having anything to play for. However, Fergie’s babes will want to give him the ceremony and send-off he deserves.
