Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman hope to return to match fitness, while on-loan Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu could be involved after an impressive performance in midweek.
Alan Pardew is hoping for a strong response to their disappointing defeat to Premier League new boys Hull last week.
Cheick Tiote could be in the starting line-up after making a successful return from a hamstring injury in the Capital One Cup defeat of Leeds.
