From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Barclays Premier League club obtained funds this morning and paid the cash straight into the players' bank accounts.
A spokesman for the club confirmed to Press Association Sport that the players have now been paid and the confirmation followed chief executive Peter Storrie's pledge, earlier today, that the issue was on the brink of being resolved.
A Portsmouth spokesperson said: "We are pleased to say the players have now been paid."
Storrie had earlier told Sky Sports News: "As far as I am aware everything is going through to their accounts today.
"Payment should be there, I am pleased to say. Obviously it is not the best scenario in the world to have this situation happening but obviously finance is a major problem in world market at the moment.
"The owners are trying everything they can and they have obviously managed to find this in the last couple of days.
"I am told funds were received this morning so therefore it's a question of the process and however long that takes to go through but I'm told it should all happen today."
Storrie also insisted players would not be sold on the cheap in order to help ease their financial crisis.
Storrie added: "I've had one or two calls and I think one or two people think there is some sort of fire sale going on. That is not the case. If we have to sell players we'll sell them for their market price and not what people think is a knock down price."
