Petr Cech: Arsenal goalkeeper wins Premier League Golden Glove award ahead of David De Gea
The 33-year-old stopper won the award outright after Chris Smalling's late own goal against Bournemouth
Petr Cech has won the Premier League’s 2015/16 ‘Golden Glove’ award for the most clean sheets, after amassing 16 shut-outs this season.
The Arsenal goalkeeper’s chances of claiming the prize looked slim until Chris Smalling’s own goal in stoppage time during Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
Smalling’s error deprived team-mate David De Gea of his 16th clean-sheet and guaranteed that the award would go to Cech.
De Gea, widely recognised as the top flight's best 'keeper, finished with total of 15 clean sheets, tying him in joint-second with Kasper Schmeichel, of league champions Leicester City, and Manchester City's Joe Hart.
Hugo Lloris, the Tottenham Hotspur 'keeper, came fifth, after claiming 13 shut-outs during his side’s title tilt.
Cech, who joined Arsenal last summer after an 11-year-long spell at Chelsea, also conceded the fewest amount of goals of any Premier League goalkeeper to play more than 30 games this term.
The 33-year-old Czech Republic international, who was hailed as “worth 12 to 15 points” by former team-mate John Terry, conceded 31 goals in 34 games over the course of the campaign.
De Gea, Cech’s closest rival, conceded 32 goals in 33 games.
