The Arsenal defender appears in the TV commercial as part of BT Sport's Christmas football marketing campaign along with team-mates Wojciech Szczesny and Mathieu Flamini.
The trio are sung to by a choir performing a variety of unexpected and light-hearted carols.
As part of the campaign, Mertesacker revealed his favourite Christmas song is 'Last Christmas', explaining it "is kind of a one hit wonder and is loved by everyone!" For Flamini it is 'Jingle Bells' and Szczesny's favourite festive tune is 'Rocking around the Christmas tree'.
As well as revealing his favourite song, the Arsenal goalkeeper said that Lukas Podolski is the biggest 'Scrooge' amongst the Gunners. He explained: "He moans all the time and he doesn’t even enjoy Christmas!"
