Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, who has treated a number of high-profile athletes throughout his career, including Usain Bolt, Darren Gough and Paula Radcliffe, clashed with Guardiola during their time together at Bayern Munich before leaving his position in April 2015 after the side's Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat by Porto.
In his new autobiography, which is being serialised by the German newspaper Bild, Muller-Wohlfahrt alleges he was “verbally attacked” by Guardiola and claims the current City manager was “upset every time a player had to come off with a muscle injury” at Bayern.
The German also accused Guardiola of “turning upside down our well thought out, tried and trusted medical preparation programme”.
Having returned to Bayern following his dismissal in 2015, the doctor has now launched a scathing attack on Guardiola, even taking shot at the manager’s personality and state of mind.
“I consider Pep Guardiola a person with a low self-esteem, who will do everything to hide it from others,” Muller-Wohlfahrt writes in his book. “He seems to live in constant fear of losing power and authority, rather than defeats.”
