Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.New Chelsea signing Pedro has given John Terry his backing after yet another difficult weekend, calling his Blues team-mate a "great captain".
The Spain international moved from Barcelona for £21.1m last week, and enjoyed a dream debut for Chelsea yesterday, with a goal and an assist in the Blues' 3-2 win at West Brom.
While it was a dream for Pedro, it was another chapter in Terry's nightmare season, as he was sent off after picking up a second yellow card. The previous week, the 34-year-old defender was substituted at half-time in Chelsea's 3-0 defeat by Manchester City.
Speaking at his press conference today, Pedro said:
"I had a great welcome at Chelsea. I felt comfortable from the start. John [Terry] is a great captain."
Pedro, 28, also admitted that Manchester City and Manchester United were interested in him, but Chelsea acted "quickest". The Blues met his release clause.
"Several English clubs were interested. United, City... But in the end Chelsea acted the quickest and wrapped up the deal."
