Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Pavlyuchenko, 28, joined Spurs in the summer of 2008 from Spartak Moscow for £13.8m but has struggled for regular first-team football at White Hart Lane, with the problem particularly acute for the Russia forward this season as he has made just four substitute appearances in the Barclays Premier League.
Speaking to the Russian press and quoted in several of this morning's British national newspapers, Pavlyuchenko said: "You cannot even imagine how tired I am of sitting on the bench. Do you want to hear a joke in London? It goes: Harry Redknapp put Roman Pavlyuchenko into the starting line-up.
"For me it would be funny if it was not so painful. I have a feeling that our manager is mocking me."
Pavlyuchenko's only starts this season have come in the Carling Cup, where he has played two games and scored once.
He also claims Redknapp told him he would be involved in the Carling Cup encounter with Manchester United at Old Trafford, only to be kept on the bench again.
"On the eve of the match he asked me to come to see him. He said: 'Tomorrow will be a chance to show your best in front of 75,000 spectators. We need to use it.' He used it by keeping me on the bench for 90 minutes."
