From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has seen his plans for next season bolstered by Pavel Pogrebnyak's admission that he would like to remain at Craven Cottage.

Jol has been urging some of his players to stay with the club rather than have their heads turned by lucrative offers elsewhere.

Among them is 28-year old Russia international Pogrebnyak, who is currently on loan from German side Stuttgart. The striker scored with each of his first five shots on target in the Premier League, and has said he is hoping he can join Jol on a full-time basis.

He said: "I need a coach like (Martin) Jol and would love to stay in England and continue to work with him.

"A conversation with the club's leadership will be held in the near future. The English game is faster than in Germany, and there are a lot of battles. But I think I've got used to it."

Fulham captain Danny Murphy and striker Andy Johnson are out of contract in the summer and would be free to leave Craven Cottage, having so far failed to sign new deals.

The Cottagers' best player of the season, Clint Dempsey, is another player whose future is undecided. The United States international has caught the attention this season thanks to his goal scoring exploits and all-round displays. He has a year to run on his contract., and with his stock high, Fulham may feel forced to cash in before he's allowed to leave for free in the summer of 2013.
