Former Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Leicester City manager Paulo Sousa has been announced as the new Fiorentina manager.

The Portuguese ended his contract with Basel by mutual consent and will be arriving in Florence on Monday to finalise the deal.

Sousa won the Super League title with the Swiss club last season and also managed to beat Liverpool in the Champions League and advance to the Round of 16.

A club statement read: "ACF Fiorentina is delighted to announce that an agreement has today been reached with Mr Paulo Sousa for him to become the new first-team Coach of the Viola.

“Mr. Sousa will be in Florence tomorrow to complete the formalities.

"A news conference will be held at the Stadio Artemio Franchi tomorrow, Monday 22 June.”

The 44-year-old will be returning to Italy where he saw a lot of success while playing for Juventus as a defensive midfielder, with which he won the Champions League in 1996 as well as the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Italian Supercup.

The Borussia Dortmund veteran will be replacing Vincenzo Montella who was sacked at the end of the season due to some controversial comments towards the club's supporters.

The Viola finished fourth in the league and will be playing in the Europa League next season.
