Paul Pogba considered leaving Manchester United before Jose Mourinho’s exit, his brother Mathias has admitted.

The French midfielder’s relationship with Mourinho was strained throughout the season, leading to speculation over his future at Old Trafford.

But since the arrival of interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Pogba has produced some of his best performances during his second spell with the club.

And brother Mathias admits the period before under Mourinho was tough and led him to consider a move away.

“Did Paul think about leaving because of Mourinho? Of course,” Mathias told French TV station Telefoot.

“But today he is where he is. He was under contract so he had to grit his teeth and keep working.”

Romelu Lukaku has emphasised the positive mood installed in the camp under Solksjaer.

“At training we are constantly saying Paul looks so happy and then he laughs. Everyone is back to their level — Paul, Marcus Rashford, me, when I get playing time I try and make as big an impact as possible, Anthony Martial, everyone.

“This competitive spirit is coming back out of each player. You can see the players want to prove themselves to the manager.”
