The French left-back, who recently hit the headlines for launching a scathing attack on former French internationals including Bixente Lizarazu, suggested he might be leaving Old Trafford in June, running out his contract.
The 32-year-old was asked on French football programme Telefoot whether he was concerned about his contract expiring, and with a new deal not in place, he replied:
“No, not at all [concerned]. It is a personal thing. It is not that Manchester United do not want me to sign a new contract. This whole thing is personal,” he said. “Manchester United would like me to finish my career there, but this is something personal.”
The club had tried to sign Everton left-back Leighton Baines over the summer and came close to signing Fabio Coentrao on loan from Real Madrid on deadline day.
