Liverpool have impressed in the opening month of the campaign, taking maximum points from games against West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester City while displaying greater defensive solidity to balance their potent attack.
But they - along with Unai Emery's developing Arsenal side - will not have enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League this year, according to the Paris Saint-Germain superstar.
When asked by the Daily Express for his projected Premier League top four at a promotional event in Barcelona, Neymar replied: “It’s very hard, it’s very difficult, but Manchester City will win it. Second will be [Manchester] United, third is Chelsea. Fourth is Tottenham.”
Neymar’s former Barcelona team-mate Gerard Pique was also present and reportedly reacted with shock at his choices, only for the Brazilian to confirm “no Liverpool” in his top four.
Liverpool lead the Premier League on goal difference from Chelsea and Watford after four games, with defending champions and title favourites Manchester City two points back.
Tottenham are a point further adrift in fifth, while Manchester United lie 10th in the table after winning just one and losing two of their opening four games.
Things are set to get significantly more difficult for Liverpool after the September international break, as they face PSG, Chelsea, Napoli and City in their next six matches in all competitions.
