From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Nuri Sahin has criticised Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers over his unhappy loan spell at Anfield earlier this season.
The Turkey international joined Liverpool on loan from Real Madrid at the start of the season but failed to make an impression during his time at the club.
After only 12 appearances, the season-long deal was terminated, with Sahin moving to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the campaign.
Sahin claims his ill spent time on Merseyside was the fault of Rodgers, who not only failed to play him in the right position, but was unable to explain his thought process.
"Brendan Rodgers wanted me to play as a 10. But I do not play behind the forwards," Sahin told Spanish newspaper AS.
"I spoke with him and asked him why I was playing there. It is not my real position. The boss could not answer me... still, I am not sorry about it.
"To play in the red jersey and be in Anfield is something marvellous.
"Maybe if I had not gone there I would not have been able to return to Borussia Dortmund. For that, I am happy.
"But I have left Brendan Rodgers, thanks be to God."
Sahin is enjoying his time back at Dortmund where he made his name before moving to the Bernabeu in 2011.
He said: "I feel well physically and mentally, everything is perfect. After returning to Germany, I feel much better."
